MCC seeks contributions for people affected by South Asia flooding
By Tim Shenk

Aug. 31, 2007

AKRON, Pa. – Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) is seeking financial contributions to help people affected by widespread flooding in Bangladesh, Nepal and eastern India.

In recent weeks, MCC provided emergency food rations in flooded areas of Bangladesh and Nepal. MCC worked with partner organizations to distribute lentils, rice and oil to 11,128 families in northwestern Bangladesh through a $100,000 U.S., or $106,000 Cdn., relief project.

Flooding is a frequent problem in South Asia, occurring every year to some extent. MCC is planning projects to help communities recover from this year's flooding and lessen the impact of future floods, such as by rebuilding riverbanks.

MCC is accepting contributions toward a total response of $250,000 U.S., or $266,000 Cdn. Contributions may be made online at mcc.org/donate or at any MCC office. They should be designated "South Asia Flood Response."
